A welcome from the Executive Headteacher, Mr Stewart Davies

On behalf of all the pupils, staff and governors, I would like to welcome you to the Llanfoist Fawr Primary School website.

Our school is sited at the base of the Blorenge mountain on the outskirts of the historic market town of Abergavenny.  At Llanfoist Fawr Primary School we believe that the primary phase of education, is one of the most important in a child’s learning journey and at the centre of their future development.  It is a time, when we aim to nurture children and create a passion of lifelong learning.  In leading children on this journey, we pride ourselves on making the learning fun, exciting, enjoyable and authentic to every child.

As a newly federated primary school with Llanvihangel Crucorney, at Llanfoist Fawr we place great emphasis on developing a strong partnerships. These partnerships exist between home, school, community and inter-school. Through working together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support that we can provide what is best for our children, in order that they may be happy, enriched and fulfil their potential. The federation allows joint events between our pupils and enables staff to share expertise, to allow the school to fully deliver on its mission at all levels and maintain a relentless drive for the pursuit of excellence. These partnerships support our children to ensure that they will grow into valuable and proactive citizens of Llanfoist and the wider community. This supports our motto of ‘Achieve to Grow’.

Learning is at the top of the agenda and we strive to attain high educational standards, but also to develop the ‘whole child’.  All involved at Llanfoist, work very hard to make our school a happy and creative place for the children to flourish and grow.  The school is known in Abergavenny for its warm friendly atmosphere where children feel valued and secure. In the Foundation Phase we deliver child centred experiential learning, this skills based approach is extended into Key Stage 2 provision.  We place importance on developing strong personal and social skills in pupils, so they can get along with each other and recognise the feelings of others. This in turn develops life skills working together, cooperation and teamwork.

We treat all our children as individuals and additional support is provided for those who benefit from extra help, as well as those who are more able. We are developing our curriculum to be in line with the New Curriculum for Wales ensuring that our children are ready for their next step of learning and life in the 21st Century.

Thank you for your interest in our school.  We are very proud of all our children and staff.  If you would like to visit the school or would like to ask any questions please telephone for an informal chat.
